After searching for your ideal home on the Costa del Sol you finally make a decision and move forward with the purchase. In the main your chosen lawyer will now take up the next stage and do all the due diligence checks to ensure everything is correct and the property has all the necessary paperwork.

Once all of this has been completed satisfactorily the sale can move on to the notary where the ownership of the property will be transferred to you.

You are now the proud owner of a new home on the sunny Costa del Sol.

The next thing we would highly recommend once you have received the keys however, is to change the locks. Most of us leave keys with friends and family and we don’t always keep track of who still has them.

We are not saying that you will be broken into, as it is very rare, but you should always be as cautious as you can and changing locks in the most simple and safest solution to ensure your new home is secure.

Also take some advice from a locksmith on the most secure locks to use. You have the opportunity to add additional layers of security to your home. Maybe get them to check windows as well and the sliding doors. Sadly there are some unscrupulous people out there and when they see people moving house they can target them as easy pickings.

One locksmith we are happy to recommend is an English locksmith who has been in business for many years and built up a solid reputation for his professional work ethic and quality of work.
